Mt. Mansfield (4,393′)

July 19-July 21, 2019

New England High Peaks

Green Mountain Range, Vermont

Troop 4 is continuing its backpacking circuit to the highest peaks in each of the New England states this summer, summiting Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. This is a short hike and an ideal introduction to backpacking for even the newest Scouts, rewarding relatively modest effort with some stunning views in the alpine zone above one of the lowest tree lines in the East.

Where: Underhill State Park, 352 Mountain Rd, Underhill, VT 05489

Website: Underhill State Park

Itinerary:

We will meet in the CVS back lot at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 19, and LEAVE by 2:00 PM.

Everyone must eat lunch before departure Friday.

We will spend the afternoon exploring the park and, time permitting, nearby Smuggler’s Notch, returning to camp for dinner and down-time.

On Saturday, we will pack light for our day-hike to the top of Mt Mansfield, returning for some planned activities by our Scout trip leader.

On Sunday, we will return to Hopkinton (CVS back lot) by mid-late afternoon and that scouts will call with an ETA from the road.
